Move Mountains for Kimberlyn Fomas and Family
Donation protected
My name is Jenny Tobin, and I am the aunt of 19 year old, Kimberlyn Fomas. On the evening of January 10, 2019, in Nicholasville, KY, a truck over corrected and hit Kimberlyn and a friend head on. The collision was horrific, and it is by the Grace of God that they are both alive. It took over an hour to cut her from the vehicle, and then she was airlifted to the University of Kentucky Hospital. Her Friend, Chelsea, was not seriously injured, but Kimberlyn was a much different story.

Her body sustained injuries that are life altering. Her injuries include, but are not limited to, compound fractures of her left arm/wrist/hand (ulna, radius, wrist bone severed to the back of the bone, tendon damage to hand and wrist). Compound fracture of her left leg femur, athropic dislocated knee, torn knee ligaments including her PCL & lateral meniscus, compound fractures of her right leg tibia, fibia, ankle, and foot. She also suffered a broken hip, pelvic bone, 3 ribs, & L2 back bone. Her spleen was partially lacerated as well. She has nerve damage to her right arm from throwing it over her friend to protect her, and multiple chipped teeth. Kimberlyn also has required testing due to heart pain, and trauma/fracture blisters & sores that are very painful. Her body is severely bruised and wounded from glass, bone, & other factors of the wreck, and she has frequent headaches.
She has undergone 3 blood transfusions and 3 surgeries, with a 4th surgery coming soon. This doesn’t include any future surgeries that she will likely undergo.
We have heard from doctors, nurses, first responders, family and friends, that they have never witnessed the kind of strength she displayed. She continues to display that strength which has us in awe.

She has the heart of a lion and is determined to work harder than anyone thinks possible. She, unfortunately, still has a very long and hard road ahead of her.
Once she has healed enough to leave UK Hospital, she will be going to Cardinal Hill Rehabilitation Hospital. There, she will receive physical therapy to aid in her regaining balance and getting stronger. They will also teach family how to help with her therapy at home and how to care for her properly, until she can walk again.
When she is released from Cardinal Hill, she will return home where she will need round the clock care. It will be a long time before she will be able to walk again and regain full use of her left arm.
Her mother (my sister), Alissa Fomas, has taken on the role of caregiver. She has always been the caregiver, but not in this sense of the word. She has been by Kimberlyn’s side since arriving at the hospital. She is also the single mother of 3 other children. One middle school boy, a high school boy and a college aged young man that lives at home. She lives on tips as a server, and hasn’t been back to work since the accident. It is likely that she will not be able to return until Kimberlyn is able to get around on her own.

Just as it is for everyone else, bills have to be paid;Rent, electric, water, phone, insurance, etc. On top of all that, food, gas, unexpected and miscellaneous expenses. I’ve estimated anywhere from $2700-$3000 a month. It is unclear at this time how long assistance will be needed to help cover these expenses. Kimberlyn will also need a vehicle equipped to transport her along with other necessities to aid in her care. We are hoping to cover expenses for at least the next 8 months.
Kimberlyn is our miracle, along with her friend, Chelsea. She and our entire family will get through this and come out stronger on the other side. Her life has been forever changed, but the key word here is LIFE! She still has her life, and for that we thank God and are eternally grateful!
