Move Mountains for Daniel and Bec

Donation protected
If you’d ask Daniel (my brother-in-law) “How are you doing?” He’d reply, “I’m okay.” And he’d manage to squeak out a pretty convincing smile-but the reality is quite different.

Daniel was recently diagnosed with relapsed Hepatosplenic T-Cell Lymphoma. And despite advances in cancer treatment, this form of lymphoma has an extremely poor prognosis and most people-once diagnosed-will pass away within 8-11 months.  It is very rare and very aggressive, making it difficult to treat. The fact that his cancer has relapsed (returned) makes the situation all the more urgent.

Daniel fought a brave and long battle last year when he was initially diagnosed in April of 2017. After undergoing intensive chemotherapy and eventually a stem cell transplant he was confirmed to be in remission early this year.  We could breath...

Sadly, 3 weeks ago they recieved the news that the cancer had returned and with a vengeance.

After much struggle-he was accepted into a trial of an experimental medication called Opdivo and is currently receiving care at Mayo Clinic and the University of Minnesota.

Progress is slow and this cancer moves fast. The hope is that somehow this drug will work rapidly enough to stop the cancer from progressing.

So far Daniel has widespread pain and nausea. He finds it hard to eat even small amounts of food and he is often awoken with pain-so sleep is difficult.

My sister (Rebecca) works tirelessly as a caregiver for Daniel and continues to work so as to provide income and health insurance for their family. But it’s so hard to work at a time like this-as she understands that their time together may be limited.

This is a couple who have spent years volunteering their time to teach others about the Bible and its’ wonderful hope for the future. They’ve selflessly helped immigrants from Ethiopia and Eritrea and do so without praise or accolades. They have been a wonderful aunt and uncle to my two little ones. They are simply good people.

I sat last night on a park bench with my sister as tears streamed down her face. She spoke of her worries-her fears and how much she wishes to be able to spend this time with her husband-by his side-knowing there may not be many more moments like this. I sat there watching my sister who has helped me and my family through very tough times including my own battle with cancer and she has not once asked for my help. She wouldn’t make a page for herself like this even in this time of great need. But I know there are good people out there that wish to help and are looking for ways to do so.

So I ask you please, to consider this request. Anything you can contribute-even small-will be valuable. Your donation will mean one more minute-one more hour of shared time together. In a situation where little is certain and everything is changing you will bring a little peace to this beautiful couple’s lives. Please help.

Thank you so much for your gracious consideration.
