Hello,

My name is Julie Milliken and my little sister is Jamie Jacobson. We are raising funds to help us move our mother to Texas to be near her family.

In 2013, Joanne Paul (mom) had a massive stroke leaving her paralyzed on her left side. Over the last 8 years, she has struggled through rehab, assisted living, and finally long-term nursing care. Unfortunately, mom was never able to walk again. Jamie and her family moved to Texas a little over 5 years ago, which means mom's visits with my sister & her grandchildren became very scarce. In July of this year, multiple circumstances lead my family to also move to southern Oklahoma, not too far from my sister in Texas.

We found a new nursing home in Frisco TX, just minutes away from Jamie's family. I will be 2 hours away. Mom will finally be near her baby girl and grandchildren again. Unfortunately, a move across state lines is quite expensive when you are in a nursing home and bound by a power wheelchair.

The family is responsible for the transportation costs as well as one month of private pay at the new nursing home. One month of private pay is nearly $8,000.00 and a medevac to move mom is about the same. To get mom to her new home is almost $16,000.00 in expenses for me and my sister.

We are searching for less expensive ways to transport mom, in a power wheelchair almost 17 hours away. One month of private pay is necessary to pay the nursing home until my mother gets her Texas residency.
