Move Dejianna From Racial Attacker

Donation protected
Hey everybody,

First of all I want to say that this is one of those rare moments where I don’t really know how to go about saying what I need to say. So if this is a little shakier than normal I apologize.

As many of you know, I’ve recently been dealing with hate crimes and racially motivated intimidation at my apartment building. The frequency and severity of the incidents have made it so I no longer feel safe in this space. My property management company is following laws, but in reality Montana law hasn’t been applied to my specific situation enough for there to be an accepted course of action, leaving me feeling incredibly unprotected. This has been made worse by the fact that the police have been largely unwilling to take any proactive steps.

I have found another place to live, but neither my current nor potential future property management company are willing to make the financial burden of a mid-lease move easier. So I will need at least $1,500 to make this move not including expenses incurred by the physical act of moving, replacing things shared with previous roommates, etc. Right now as a student on limited income I really just do not have the resources to act in this emergency situation. Today we raised about $270. But I am unfortunately in a vulnerable situation and the rest of these funds can’t come soon enough, as the attacks against me have increased in both frequency and intensity in recent days, I fear for my safety if I stay any longer.

I have sought legal counsel, tapped several campus and community resources, and at this point I feel I have found the best course of action moving forward. I don’t want to leave my home and I don’t want to ask for money. If there were other viable options they would have been pursued in a heartbeat.

So I have to reach out to my community and say: please help. I know these things are never convenient, and this is not something I’m generally comfortable doing, but asking for your help is born of necessity. I can promise that I will reimburse the community through devoted organization and action in the face of the mislead cowardice and hatred that is creating this reality for all of us.

Lastly, I want to say I love all of you and am so grateful to be part of this community. Thank you so much for your support during this difficult time.
