Hi, this is my cat Moustaki (Chester) who I rescued off the streets in August 2024. He was part of a hoarder’s cat family, then let go onto the street along with 10+ other cats. All of his siblings were adopted, but he was reluctant to be taken in as he is FIV positive, and most people have other cats in the household. When walking on the street one day, he ran up to me and my boyfriend, meowing and purring. The next day I knew I had to have him, so I took him in, hoping to give him a better life. I understood the risks of FIV and was prepared to love him and give him a new home. In the first week of having him, he was taken to the emergency vet for a severely high fever, and taken to the regular vet a few times for fleas which were taken care of. He was happy, lively, and the kindest cat to anyone’s path he came across. He flourished for months, until he started rapidly losing weight and showing an unknown mass petruding from his nose. Since then, he has been in and out of the vet numerous times and put on many different medications. We were searching for answers, but we were told that even just looking up his nose to see what was going on would be $4,000, which was impossible for us. He had an abscess coming out from under his eye, and various other concerns. We now no longer see red protruding from his nose, but we see that the right side of his nose is a lot larger as this is where the most likely tumor is, and it hurts him to the point where we can’t even touch his nose or he will start crying. His face needs to be cleaned multiple times a day and he cannot breathe very well from his nose. We were given the option of comfort care in order to prevent things from getting worse to which we decided we would do, giving him steroids daily to maintain the potential tumor- as it is nowhere near affordable for $4,000+ JUST to see what’s wrong. That doesn’t even include surgery or treatment. We watched him begin to gain weight again and finally be able to eat fully again with the steroids, but comfort care only goes a long way, and steroids can only prevent so much for so long. We are looking to raise money to pay for an MRI/CT scan, potential radiation, imaging, anesthesia, surgery, bloodwork, and etc, which can range anywhere from $5,000-$10,000. I believe he also may potentially have crypto-caucus, which his biological brother has shown signs of. They used to live on the street near geese poop, so it is extremely possible. We do not have a set price yet detailed from medical, but we are working to find out and can assure that every single penny would go to making sure my beautiful boy lives the life he deserves. He is so strong, still purrs every day, but is beginning to hide under the bed more than play, and that’s not a life to be lived. It hurts my heart to see such a sweet boy suffer like this, and having to get him to take medicine every day that can only do so much. Medical bills, especially vet ones, should not be this expensive. We should have had an answer long ago. I do not want to wait for things to get worse, and I want my beautiful cat to be able to be healthy again. Anything helps, even $5. Anything unused in the end of this process. will be returned to sender. I’m
hoping it doesn’t exceed 8k, and even if it does I will figure it out for him. I hope the surgery goes well if it happens and what’s needed, considering his history. He’s a fighter. Thank you so much to anyone and everyone who can help him, and even if you can’t, please spread the word ❤️
