On March 25th, we brought Mouse home from an Oklahoma kill pen. She was left by the Amish after years of hard work. Mouse has stolen our hearts in this short time and is now very sick and fighting for her life in surgery.
Mouse is currently at the Brazos Valley Equine Hospital where, upon intake, she was given several tests and minutes to make very hard choices, including euthanasia.
As a family, we want to fight for Mouse and are asking you to please help us and fight with us to save her life. Mouse has a mechanical blockage in the very front of her small intestine, about 90ft from the exit, that requires surgery to fix. As I write this, she is currently in surgery. We honestly can't afford this debt alone, but we couldn't bring ourselves to give up when she's got so much fight in her. Anything helps, and we appreciate every one of you. If you can't donate, please consider sharing.
Update 5/6/2025
Mouse is out of surgery and now in ICU. She had an ileum impaction caused by being fed corn at the feed lot.
The Dr said she is one of the worst impacted cases he had seen. Mouse had several feet of corn built up and again WE DO NOT FEED CORN the feed lot however did feed her corn for the 5 days she was there.
Nothing about Mouse's life has ever been easy. She was an Amish work horse for 13 years then left for dead in a kill pen.
While Mouse is standing after a surgery that took nearly 6 hrs and is a miracle in itself she is still in the danger zone. So far we have paid $6600 for her surgery and hospital stay and we really need your help to cover the rest and to help us pay down this credit card debit.
Mouse will be in the hospital racking up the vet bill while she recovers. Please if you are able to help us with vet bills during this time we would appreciate you.
Update 5/7/2025
Mouse is starting to feel like herself today!!!
Her fever has dropped she is nosey and alert. Her doctor called us this afternoon and we are looking to come home Monday. She is continuing to do well with food regularly pooping and even a little spunky.
With great news comes the hard ask. We still need help covering her vet stay and surgery.
Our bill is now sitting at over $8,000
Update 5/9/2025
Mouse isn't feeling to well today. Her white blood cells are low so she can not come off the antibiotics like we had thought yesterday. We aren't super worried because she is strong her appetite is ok and she's passing good poops. This may also set back our time frame to take her home but she is still fighting and making strides to come home.
Our bill now sits over $9400
