Support Girls' Education in Northern Pakistan: Mountains of Change Scholarship

We are launching mates pakistan, in partnership with Mates Fund, to provide scholarships that support girls from remote communities in Pakistan to complete their final years of high school (Years 11 and 12).

Background

Earlier this year, we visited Machulo, a remote mountain village in northern Pakistan. While the natural beauty of the region was unforgettable, what truly moved us was the incredible generosity of the local people. Families welcomed us with tea, meals, transport, and accommodation—they had so little, yet gave so much.

During our time there, we witnessed the eagerness of young girls to learn, despite the fact that many are unable to continue their education past Year 10. In these communities, education beyond this level is often financially out of reach, and when resources are limited, boys are typically prioritised over girls.

Our Goal

This year, we are aiming to raise $2900 AUD to fully fund the Mountains of Change Scholarship — a two-year scholarship for one female student from Machulo to complete Years 11 and 12 at a school in a nearby city.

The scholarship will cover:

Total for 2 years of schooling = $2900 fees

The recipient will be selected by a committee based in Pakistan, focusing on qualities such as eagerness to learn, kindness, and leadership potential—not solely academic performance.

While this year’s focus is on supporting one student, our long-term vision is to offer two scholarships each year, and ultimately, to support these students beyond high school—into university or further education. We are committed to building sustainable, long-term opportunities for girls who are ready to lead.

Ensuring Transparency

To ensure full transparency and accountability, we have partnered with a locally registered, community-based non-profit organisation in Pakistan. This partner will manage and distribute the funds directly to the student’s educational needs, and provide regular updates on her progress. Every dollar donated will go toward supporting her education—not toward admin or overhead costs.
