Every two years, we organise a mountaineering expedition for senior pupils to the Swiss Alps. This summer, nine pupils will be undertaking the expedition, with the aim of summiting a number of 4,000-metre peaks. As part of the preparation for the expedition, pupils are encouraged to undertake fundraising activities both to support the cost of the trip and to raise money for a charity of their choice.

Having completed some of our training in the UK, including in the Brecon Beacons, the pupils were keen to support Mountain Rescue in recognition of the invaluable work undertaken by volunteers across the country.

To raise funds, they have devised a challenge to climb the central stairwell of the school continuously for 24 hours, tracking the cumulative altitude gained and comparing it to the height of the mountains they hope to climb in Switzerland.

The intention is to donate a proportion of all funds raised - one third - to Mountain Rescue England and Wales.
