Mountain Caribou Cam

Want to glimpse into the lives of the rare mountain caribou?

The secretive and majestic Mountain caribou, a unique population of woodland caribou only found in the remote snowy mountains of western Canada, are silently heading towards extinction. Several herds, including the last herd found in continental United States, have already disappeared and many others are dwindling.

These elusive animals are rarely seen in the wild, but one herd in east central British Columbia, can reliably be seen in one location. Throughout the fall, caribou emerge from the dense forest to eat at a supplemental feeding station, an on-going experiment set up by professional wildlife biologists to help them gain weight and increase their chances of surviving through the winter.

The Caribou Conservation Breeding Foundation wants to capture this unique opportunity to peer into the lives of these incredible creatures and bring them to you through a live stream video! We need your support to acquire and maintain a remote live feed camera setup at the caribou supplemental feeding station in British Columbia. Your donation helps pay for cameras, solar panels, batteries, modems, monthly connectivity fees and equipment maintenance that are required to get this exciting project up and running. Once the equipment is installed, people around the world will be able to observe the elusive mountain caribou anytime they visit the feeding station from the comfort of their home. We hope this live stream video inspires people to help caribou recover from the brink of extinction. Any support is tremendously appreciated!

Who We Are

Founded in 2020, the Caribou Conservation Breeding Foundation (CCBF) is a not-for-profit organization dedicated to caribou recovery.

Habitat protection and restoration are fundamental priorities for caribou conservation, but the precarious state of many caribou herds warrants additional approaches to ensure they persist on the landscape, including the implementation of conservation breeding and reintroduction programs.

Conservation breeding, a science-based technique that has prevented the extinction of many endangered species, can help by breeding caribou at a dedicated conservation centre and releasing healthy young animals to the wild to reinforce small herds or reintroduce extinct herds.

CCBF supports caribou recovery by uniting caribou advocates and wildlife professionals and bridging the gap between caribou recovery initiatives and the field of conservation breeding.
