Mount Rainier Community Food Forest on 31st St
Donation protected
Introducing the Mount Rainier Community Food Forest, located on 31st Street between Taylor and Upshur Streets. A year-long volunteer community effort has transformed this little-used pocket park into a varied landscape that provides ecologically designed plantings and family-friendly opportunities to connect with nature.
This GoFundMe campaign is aimed at installing interpretative signs which capture the spirit of the community and defraying ongoing park expenses. Many thanks to Mount Rainier artists Torie Partridge and Steve Dumaine who are collaborating to create 5 extraordinary signs and their unique bases.
The park has been a bright spot in the midst of the pandemic. It has become a place for community members to spend time with their families, to walk their dogs, to volunteer their time and energy, to connect with nature, and to harvest what the park provides. There is also a trail, which volunteers have cleared, connecting the park to Rainier Avenue.
The addition of the signs will explain the permaculture and native plant gardening tenets which are fundamental to the vision for the park. The signs will also direct visitors to our website https://mtrainiermdfoodforest.org/for further exploration. These will be park signs like no others, providing information, fun, and inspiration for children and adults.
Please give generously. THANK YOU
