Climbing the worlds highest peak should make you feel like you have accomplished greatness, not like your going dumpster diving.
As the child of two Nepali parents, I felt inclined to connect to my parents and learn more about the geography and state of environment in Nepal. Looking at photographs of Nepal made me smile because of its natural beauty, however, I came to realize that this beauty was not going to be everlasting. The highest peak in Nepal and the world, Mt. Everest, was getting scattered with debris on a day to day basis by careless climbers who only seek out the end goal of climbing to the top. These hikers forget what its all about to climb a mountain and preserve its pristine and beautiful condition. Thus, leaving over 120,000 lbs of potentially removable waste on the mountain. This includes things such as garbage, human waste, and kitchen waste, all caused by just plain old ignorance and disrespect. By donating just a couple dollars to this cause we will strive to make the mountains cleaner and better place.
My name is Jisan Lamichhane and I am currently an attending sophomore at Jamesville DeWitt High-school. After my dad told me about a trip to Nepal he was planning to take, I knew it was an opportunity I couldn’t miss to try and help out with something there. With some insight about the topic from my father, I found it interesting that not much was being done to address the situation about the trash. From that point on I knew something had to be done to make some positive change, henceforth, the Mount Everest Eco Effort was born.
Remember, a little progress everyday, adds up to great results.
