Moua (Seng) Lo

Friends and Family,

You may already be aware of the tragedy that struck my family on 3/29/19 where Moua (Seng) dove into the San Joaquin River to save his 1-year-old-son after he fell off their family boat.  As a result of the brave actions of Moua’s 8-year-old and 10-year-old daughters who were also on the boat, Moua’s 1-year old son was rescued, but Moua’s body disappeared into the river.  Family and friends searched for Moua since that horrible day and were able to recover his body after a week  on 4/6/2019.  My family and I want to thank everyone for the outpouring of love, support and compassion you have bestowed upon us.  Out of this tragedy, we have made new friends and family who were once strangers that would’ve never crossed our paths.  Words cannot express the sadness and gratitude that we have felt in this short time.

We have received many inquiries, near and far, about how to support Moua’s children and wife.  Moua is loved by so many because he loved everyone just as much.  As a result, we have made the decision to create this go-fund-me account as one avenue for those that want to provide support to them in this traumatic time.  The donations received will be used for funeral expenses and therapeutic activities for Moua’s children as their lives will  never be the same.  Please know that your love and compassion is also enough.

New:  As you may have seen with our update, Moua was laid to rest today.  As a result, we have now disabled donations to this campaign and will withdraw your donations for Moua's wife to help reconcile the funeral expenses.  Some of you may know that Hmong funerals average 30K and Moua's exceeded this amount.  Some of you might be interested to know why Hmong funerals are so expensive, and one of the reasons is that they usually last 2-3 days, beginning  in the early mornings and sometimes ending in the late nights or even lasting 48 hours until the day of the burial.   Moua's celebration of life began on Friday, 4/19/19 and lasted a total of 3 days; ending on Monday, 4/22/19 with the burial.  Moua's visitors were provided with breakfast, lunch, and dinner so that they can honor him and lean on each other for support.  Moua was loved, admired and respected by so many that his visitors overflowed.  We are so thankful for everyone that came to Moua's funeral.  It is true that "the value of a person's life is measured by the amount of people they touched living it"(Scott Hildreth).

You may wonder why we have given you so much information, and this is becasue Gofundme has  required this.  They have an interest in making sure that our donors get transparency.  I believe this is valuable as each of you want to ensure that Moua's family is truly benefiting from this campaign.  The organizers of this campaign are Moua's siblings:  Dua Lo, Ger Lo, Ma Lo, Chong Lo, Vang Lo, Chao Lo, Mai Nhia Lo and Ia Lo.  We all live in the central valley in California and are committed to ensuring that Moua's wife and children are supported in every way possible through this tragedy.  To help Moua's wife, your donations will be withdrawn by one of us and be given to her directly.  As you know, she is stricken with grief and this will be one less thing for her to worry about.

Lastly, we know that many of you donated because Moua touched your lives in some way and we know you have prayed for his son.  Your prayers have helped his son to recover miraculously and he is home with his mother and sisters.  He needed physical therapy but has made great strides.  His father's sacrifice was not in vain.  There is much more healing that will be necessary.
