Hi, I’m Brittney, and I am trying to raise funds to help my uncle Roger and his family. Roger was in a horrible motorcycle accident and is currently in the ICU with several surgeries behind him and half a dozen more in the immediate future. Doctors say he will have permanent damage and may not be able to use the left side of his body again. His family needs help paying for the exorbitant medical costs that come with an extended stay in the hospital, living expenses such as food, gas, and the mortgage, as well as making preparations for him to come home eventually.
Roger is the primary provider for his family of 8. For the last 22 years, Rogers has worked as a subcontracted Engineer at Intel, getting in and out of cleanrooms and tight spaces as he fixed the machines used to make wafers. When Roger wasn’t working, you could often hear him boasting about his beautiful wife, his 3 children in college, the 2 kids in high school and his youngest in elementary school. He loves to spend time with all of them, especially if it involves getting outdoors.
On May 22nd, Roger was riding his motorcycle to church Sunday morning when a car didn’t see him approaching and pulled out into the street, causing Roger to have a high-speed collision with the vehicle. The damage to Roger was immediate and severe. The left side of his body was mangled, almost beyond recognition. Thankfully some of the first vehicles on the scene were other families from Roger’s church who recognized him and were trained to help.
Roger was life-flighted from the accident site to OHSU, where his wife Eileen and sister Coral waited to hear his status. Roger spent the majority of Sunday in surgery, accessing and stabilizing him. His family was updated throughout the day but sent home without getting to see Roger.
One of the immediate concerns for Roger was the condition of his left leg. It was broken in 5 locations and the bone was protruding out of the body. During emergency surgery Sunday, his leg was closed up and external connections were used to stabilize it. The family was advised that amputation of the leg was a possibility. Scans of the head, neck and spine showed a lack of severe trauma, but breaks were found in his tibia, heel, femur, kneecap, fibula, ribs, clavicle, wrist, jaw, septum, and a chip in the spine of the neck.
