Motherwell and District Women's Aid (MDWA ) provides a safe space for ALL women and children at risk of Domestic Violence.
North Lanarkshire is one of the worst affected areas in the UK for domestic violence and abuse. Almost 1 in 37 households suffer from this, so it's a huge and mostly unseen problem. The COVID-19 pandemic has also prompted an increase in violence rates and just when we need support the most, we're finding it most difficult to come by.
As of May 2021, our funding is set to be removed, making North Lanarkshire the first Scottish local authority to remove funding for organisations which provide dedicated refuge and support to women and girls fleeing, or at risk of, domestic violence.
That's why we're asking for your help.
Even a tiny contribution can help make a life-changing difference to someone who needs help.
Questions and Answers
What will the fundraiser be used for?
The fundraiser will be used to keep vital support and refuge services in place. The decision taken by North Lanarkshire Council has effectively removed the budget that was allocated to women's support staff within Motherwell and the local district.
Do you provide support for LBTI women?
Absolutely! We provide support for any and all women who need it.
