Hi my name is Katie, I’m fundraising for a fellow classmate, colleague, wife and mother. In mid June Melissa felt a lump. thankfully she reached out to her doctor right away, thinking it would be nothing. She doesn’t have any known high risk factors and is not in an age group stastically for it to be more common yet. In January She had a breast exam by the doctor and no abnormalities were felt then. Shes so grateful that her intuition urged her not delay telling her doctor what she found by chance. It's been a long month with referrals, mammogram, ultrasound, core biopsy, MRI, bloodwork and appointments. She’s still processing the shock that She has BREAST CANCER and all that is about to unfold. She has been diagnosed with a 2.7CM Invasive Ductal Carcinoma, grade 3, Triple postive (ER+, PR+, Her2+). At this point it does not appear to have spread to her lymph nodes but She has a fast growing, aggressive kind of cancer. This tumor has gotten very large very fast and needs quick treatment before spreading. The good news is with triple positive breast cancer they have very targeted treatments that it responds well to. She will need chemo TCHP treatment as first step (often surgery is first) in the beginning of August to help stop this thing fast. It's going to be an extremely scary, stressful and hard year ahead of  her.
