LAGUARDIA PERFORMING ARTS CENTER in LONG ISLAND CITY will present a developmental workshop production of NATHAN YUNGERBERG’S play MOTHER OF PEARL for the 2019 ROUGH DRAFT FESTIVAL directed by ZHAILON LEVINGSTON and starring BRIAN D. COATES, C. KELLY WRIGHT, JOEL LEFFERT, JOSEPH AUZENNE, and DAVID ANZUELO!
MOTHER OF PEARL is a powerful new MULTIMEDIA THEATRE experience that explores the definitions of family and forgiveness within the context of NEW YORK CITY HOUSE MUSIC scene. The play uses MUSIC, DIALOGUE, MOVEMENT and PROJECTIONS to bridge the gap between 1988 and 2018. Mother of Pearl explores how TRADGEDY can divide even the most close-knit communities while questioning the stability of youthful pacts of SOLIDARITY, UNITY, and INCLUSION.
The WORKSHOP production is a crucial stage in the DEVELOPMENT of a new play. The workshop gives the PLAYWRIGHT and DIRECTOR a chance to get the play up on its feet and gauge which aspects of the STORY and STRUCTURE need to be refined as it begins the JOURNEY towards a world premiere. We are asking for your SUPPORT to tell this important story. In order to maximize our workshop process, we need to RAISE additional FUNDS to pay for ACTORS, designers, COSTUMES, projections, STAGE MANAGEMENT, marketing, DJ’S and more!
Help MOTHER OF PEARL reach its goal by MARCH 16
