Carol started life in Williamsport, PA always knowing she wanted to be a nurse. She joined Geisinger Memorial Hospital to begin her nursing education and quickly rose to the top. She soon moved to Salt Lake City, Utah where she would complete her Masters Degree in Nursing--and then on to her PhD at Case Western Reserve University in Cleveland, OH. It was here that she focused on women's health and eliminating secrecy in the adoption process. She had an adopted son, Greg, and wanted to give him the ability to find his birth mother-and his history--in the fullness of love and acceptance. Sadly, we will never know if Greg found his birth mother due to his suicide at the age of 21. This was a heart rending loss for all of us, especially for our Mother. It is hard to put into words the loss and agony of a life lost at such a young age.
But she went on to found the Florida Gulf Coast University School of Nursing in Fort Myers, Florida and to retire with honor as a Colonel in the US Army Reserves. During her career Carol always fought for equal rights for all people regardless of sex, color or religion. She championed nurses and nursing education. She has made an impact on the lives of countless thousands of young nursing students and helped shaped the nursing profession for years to come. Her courage, strength and resilience in the face of overwhelming adversity is an inspiration for everyone.
Let's all pull our resources together and go on a huge family and friend vacation when this pandemic is over, what do you say? Join in and let's have some fun!
