Mother in Coma, Baby Born 10 Weeks Early – Help for Family

Donation protected
Summary:

Kiri, pregnant with her fourth child, Luna, fell critically ill with pneumonia at 30 weeks, causing her lung to collapse and requiring an emergency C-section while she was in a coma. Now, baby Luna is in intensive care, and Kiri remains in ICU, while Scott cares for their three boys and faces financial strain, leaving the family in urgent need of support for medical and living expenses.

Introduction:

Kiri and Scott were awaiting the arrival of their baby girl (the 4th child and first girl) due in November 2024. In 2022, Kiri and Scott lost their son Eddy who was stillborn at 22 weeks, however, they have 3 beautiful healthy boys—Khadus (9), Loki (6), and Ivar (4) & this pregnancy Kiri was healthy and well until 29 weeks.

August 24th - their family was hit hard by influenza and Kiri, who was unable to take medication due to her pregnancy, fell critically ill and was admitted to the hospital in Joondalup, Perth.

Their Story:

August 31st - Kiri was admitted to the hospital with severe chest pain and difficulty breathing, the day before Father’s Day in Australia at 30 weeks pregnant.

Initially, doctors suspected a blood clot but soon discovered she had developed pneumonia, which caused her lung to collapse.

Her condition worsened, and she began drifting in and out of consciousness.

In an attempt to stabilise her and keep baby Luna safe in the womb, Kiri was placed in a medically induced coma and put on a ventilator.

The hope was to delay an emergency C-section and give Luna more time to develop.

However, the very next day, doctors detected bleeding and had no choice but to perform a life-saving emergency C-section with Kiri in a coma.

September 3rd - Baby Luna was born 10 weeks early, weighing just 1.4 kg (about 3 pounds). Baby Luna was immediately transported to Perth’s best neonatal department at King Edward Memorial Hospital, where she is receiving critical care.

Meanwhile, Kiri remains in the ICU at Joondalup Hospital, still in an induced coma and on a ventilator, as doctors work to help her recover from pneumonia and the collapsed lung.

How You Can Help:

Scott, Kiri’s partner, has had to stop working as a subcontract plasterer to care for their three boys while Kiri fights for her life in the hospital. He is spending his days doing his best to single parent 3 young boys while seeing premature baby Luna to get critical skin-to-skin contact & visiting Kiri in a coma each day at different hospitals that are 45 minutes apart.

Without his income, the family struggles to cover basic expenses, including rent, bills, and the mounting medical costs for Kiri and Luna.

We are asking for donations to help this beautiful family get through this unimaginable time without the added burden of financial strain. Your generosity will go directly toward covering their living expenses, and medical bills, and providing the care that baby Luna and Kiri need for a healthy recovery especially so Scott can spend the necessary time at home helping Kiri and Luna recover when they eventually get released from the hospital.

Gratitude:

From the bottom of our hearts, we thank you for any support you can provide. Whether through a donation or sharing this campaign, your kindness will make a difference for Kiri, Luna, and their family. We are holding onto hope that Kiri and baby Luna will soon be able to return home, where their boys are anxiously waiting to welcome them back.

*This campaign is run by Kiri's only brother Luka and his wife Danielle. All donations will go directly to Scott & Kiri's bank account in Australia**

** The family has requested to not publish any pictures of Kiri in a coma being that it is such a vulnerable state. Thank you for understanding**
