Hello, my name is Shyanne, and I am a mother in Georgia fighting to protect my daughter and myself from dangerous and life-threatening living conditions. We are currently trapped in a home filled with black mold, severe pest infestations, and structural issues that continue to make my already serious medical conditions drastically worse. I have exhausted every resource I know through the housing system, but due to delays, shutdowns, and funding barriers, we cannot get out without help. I am humbly asking for your compassion and support so we can relocate to a safe home before it’s too late.
For over a year, my daughter and I have been living in a home that has failed multiple health and safety inspections for mold, high humidity, roaches, and long-term untreated damage. Despite repeated work orders and even code enforcement involvement, these conditions continue to worsen. My landlord has left critical repairs unfinished, forcing us to survive in an environment that is unsafe for anyone — especially someone with severe health vulnerabilities like mine, and a child with sensory challenges.
I have undergone two back surgeries, an emergency appendectomy, and I suffer from multiple cysts and additional major medical concerns. My doctors have stated that I have a serious and potentially life-threatening condition that requires a healthy, stable home and close monitoring. Instead, we are breathing in mold daily, constantly sick, and terrified of how much more damage this environment will cause.
My daughter has autism with sensory needs, and she urgently requires a clean, stable space to support her development. I'm pending approval for a reasonable accommodation for a 3-bedroom home to meet both of our medical needs — but I do not have the bridge funding required to move. Due to the shutdown and backlog in processing housing approvals, there is no timeline for when assistance will reach us. We simply cannot afford to wait while our health continues to deteriorate.
To make an already crisis situation even harder, I lost my father less than six months ago, a devastating emotional blow during an already overwhelming time. Around that same time, someone I trusted caused an incident that totaled my car right before one of my surgeries. I am now without transportation to medical appointments, pharmacies, or even basic errands. This has left me feeling isolated and without the means to take care of my family’s most urgent needs.
What We Need Help With
Moving costs: security deposit (first & last month’s rent)
movers
(I have already identified a safe home — I just need financial help to secure it.)
Utility setup and basic household necessities
Emergency relocation to a mold-free environment
Health Risks We Are Facing Daily
Long-term mold exposure can cause severe respiratory illness, repeated infections, neurological symptoms like headaches and memory problems, skin reactions, and a weakened immune system. Children are at an even higher risk, as mold exposure can cause asthma, long-term lung damage, developmental delays, and cognitive difficulties. I am terrified of what this is doing to my daughter — and how much more my own body can take under these conditions.
Every single day we remain here, our health gets worse.
Every donation — no matter the size — brings us one step closer to safety.
If you are unable to donate, sharing our story would mean the world to us.
Thank you, from the bottom of my heart, for caring enough to read and support our fight for a safe place to call home.
With gratitude,
Shyanne & Daughter
