On Friday, July 11, 2025, my daughter and I discovered visible mold blowing from the HVAC vents in our apartment. This finding explains the severe, unexplained health issues we’ve battled for the past year, including repeated ER visits.

Because the unit is unsafe, we have been living out of a hotel since 7/11, effectively homeless. When we reported the situation, the property-management company:

• Declined to arrange or pay for professional mold or air-quality testing.

• Refused to provide alternative housing or cover our hotel costs.

• Gave us just one week to vacate the apartment. (Update: I was able to push the move-out date to the 1st, since I’m fairly certain a one-week notice is not legally enforceable.)

To file an insurance claim—and to protect our health—we began by obtaining independent air-quality testing, which confirmed the presence of airborne mold spores. However, to move forward, we now need certified mold testing specific to the HVAC system. Quotes for this type of testing range from $400–$800, plus lab fees.
