Our Lady of the Road, a free laundromat cafe in South Bend, Indiana, started housing people who were living in tents without access to sanitation in August of 2020, and today we've housed 565 people experiencing homelessness in motel rooms, with a 75% success rate of people finding stability at the motel and moving on to better options. We began with two months of private donations, but then have been supported with federal funds distributed by our county--Covid Cares Act funds and American Rescue Plan funds. The latest ARP funds came with a match requirement, and we need some help meeting that match. We have a permanent facility in the works, New Day Intake Center, and are again turning towards private donations to help us continue this year while we prepare to grow into a permanent facility.
