A few words from the director;
Hello, I'm De Rocha, the writer/director of the movie Motel Marrakesh, and I'm also tabby the stuntcat, the one climbing on the roof.
The funds are to finance this unfamiliar movie, Motel Marrakesh, aka MM$. Everything started back home; I grew up traveling by this strange, peculiar motel, which always got my attention as a kid and still does, as you guys can see it. My mum used to say that it was a no-good place to go, a place where sins were made, and the pursuit of sex and vices were always the aim of people who visited that place, and that, of course, got me even more drawn to know what it was all about. Fast forward, I'm in Sweden, and that glimpse of that motel as a kid, came along one day, and made me picture it being a place where many interesting characters would be, where great stories were to be told and lived through. So, I wrote the script titled Motel Marrakesh, which I presented to my very close met-in-Paris-in-an-acting-school friend Oliver Diaz, who took over the producer's role to help me make this movie.
The reason I'm making this movie, it's just because it’s a calling; it just feels right to me; I genuinely believe this will be a great picture, I have an incredible team behind me, and I know that my team will help me bring the best out of the script.
I could be here, not cursing, stating that it’s from the deepest of the deepest of my childhood dreams, trying to sound all fancy with big words I don’t even know what it means, but that's not what this is about. I’m just an oddball, just like all of my characters, telling an odd story that I genuinely believe in. All I’m saying is that I want to make a movie that I care for, that my characters have the freedom to be whoever that f they want to be, say whatever truth they want to speak, and that I can be true to what I love, to what I care for, Filmmaking is what I love, and I believe art is caring for what you do, and I honestly care for this film.
All the funds will be used for the making of this movie. So far, my producer has financed the doings of this picture, and we're no rich kids with rich parents; we are broke artists, at least I am, we might have a rich motherfucker amongst us, but that fucker hasn't spoken up yet, so, in the meantime, I'm asking you guys, alright? Anything is welcome. And with that help, my crew and I will have the complete creative freedom to show everything we can do, and we won’t have to deal with some of the limitations you may have because of money.
We're a bunch of talented, hungry artists who want to make the new wave of filmmaking happen, we just need one chance to prove ourselves right, and we're hoping to have your support on this journey.
The Crew of Motel Marrakesh and I thank you all, have a beautiful day, and I will see you guys on the other side.
Cash, cash, Motel Marrakesh, let’s go.
MM$'S CHARACTERS
HARUKI ANTONIS - He’s a visitor whose ambition to find his beloved lobster gets lost in his turbulent time at the motel.
TEEN - She’s like every teenager, difficult to deal with; she works at the motel, delivering the best service she can while giving her notes, leading to some of the doings and undoings around the motel, all that while rolling on her favourite colorful roller-skates.
LE CHANTEUR - He is the harmony of the motel; many say that he’s a folklore being and he’s only to come when its time for him to come, and whenever he does, the beautiful melody of his voice, together with his guitar comes with him, spreading the true sound of Motel Marrakesh’s land.
WOMAN - Another visitor with a wild soul that travelled the Atlantic Ocean together with her beloved partner, with no direction in mind, led by the blows on the ocean, they ended up arriving at the motel, where they shared beauty and chaos together, leading to unfortunate decisions that put them apart, but the woman has had something waiting for her at the motel, her destiny.
POLISH WOMAN - The loving soul of the motel and also the butcher, she’s the one who keeps the motel alive and running well, butchering the most out of the creatures around to deliver the best meal possible to her family and the visitors, but she’s a mother, loving Tabby dearly, and like every mother worrying a lot for his doings around the motel.
FRENCHMAN - Polish woman’s partner, who says that there’s nothing better than getting warmer with a cigarette on a cold winter; he’s a huntsman who, instead of having hounds, he has tabby.
They go on early mornings into the wild to bring back the wild ones for the meals of the motel.
The Frenchman believes that he’s the definition of a real man, hard at times for the ones he loves, and from a real man, only strength is the real way of dealing with things in life, as he says himself, " a man with no strength, it's just a dead man".
TABBY - A cross between an Abynissian cat and a Balangoda man, tabby is from the lands of Saint mont Carlo, raised in the dark valleys of Paris; tabby was a lonely cat, surviving the roughness of the hidden jungle of Paris; he had to pull out several eyes, break several necks to pass his message across.
Cleaning the rooftops of the Parisian buildings to feed himself and his other beloved stray ones, Tabby has gone through many unfortunate events before coming to the motel, where he now shares the comfort of a well-prepared meal, but even then, tabby still has the instinct of a wild stray one.
Your donation, of any amount, will help us produce our film as young filmmakers. Although we have already invested countless hours and our own money (approximately $4,000), we still need your help to reach our budget goal of kr200,000, equivalent to roughly $18,000.
As mentioned, we have already invested considerably into this production, but with your help, we can produce something of much greater quality that will
springboard us not only the writer/director but the entire cast and crew as they pursue their careers in the film industry.
Below you’ll see our approximate budget plan and how the donations will be allocated in the best interest of the film’s creation and completion.
