Moston Suya: help stop Lekan being made homeless
In a story that has gone from bad to worse, due to violent racist arsonists a complete lack of support from Greater Manchester police and council, Lekan (David) Kamson – of the Moston Suya food van – is now risking being evicted from his home.
After racists burned down his food van, after threatening him, he was able to buy a new van, licensing and equipment and get back on his feet.
This was short lived before the council shut him down, declining his applications to trade and refusing to offer alternatives, despite a petition. The Greater Manchester Police have also failed to bring the known attackers to justice.
The ask
All of this has left Lekan at breaking point.
His landlord is trying to evict him immediately. He is also living on food handouts of often only a packet of noodles a week.
While we work through the complex process of navigating the unresponsive council and police, we simply want to make sure Lekan doesn’t die or hunger or become homeless.
We are asking for modest donations which will only be used towards:
• paying his rent
• making sure he has electricity and water
• providing a decent amount of food each week.
We hope and pray this will be short-lived and the council will allow him to trade again before long, which is all he wants.
Any excess will only go towards:
• legal fees for police and human rights appeal
• mental health support for Lekan.
All receipts will be kept.
