Moses Harazi Scholarship Fund Year 1

Donation protected
Who: Moses Harazi, age 21 from Malawi.

What: Scholarship Fund
Raising funds for Moses to study Computer Science at the University of Leeds Beckett in the UK. Moses applied to the university and was accepted for Fall 2020 admission. He already has a Diploma in Computing and currently works as a Software Technician.

Why: The chance to make a difference.
I first met Moses when I moved to Malawi in 2018 to launch a solar microfinance company. When I moved back to SF this year, I started a mentorship program that connects bright young Malawians with successful professionals in Silicon Valley. Moses was the first participant. Both Moses’ mentor and I have been particularly impressed with Moses' adaptability and communication skills, which will be key to his successful integration into a UK-based school and culture.

About Malawi
Malawi is a small, landlocked country in southern Africa on the shores of it's namesake, Lake Malawi. Malawi is also called the "Warm Heart of Africa" as Malawians are known for their friendliness and gracious hospitality. With a population of nearly 19 million people and an average annual income of $400 per person, Malawi is the second poorest country in the world.

How much does it cost? $32,000
Please only contribute an amount that you're financially comfortable with, but the following helps break down the costs.
    $125  -> 1 Month Student Bus & Rail Pass
    $250  -> 1 Month Living Expenses
    $500  -> 1 Month Accommodation (on campus, 1st year requirement)
$1,500  -> 1 Month of Tuition

How are you raising funds?
We’re using the GoFundMe campaign as the primary tool. Working with the university and foundations, we have managed to secure a few small scholarships. Funding is quite limited right now and most available funding is reserved for "home" students (UK & EU).  Moses' current income of $110/month is well above average, but Malawi's economic outlook and Covid-19 make it extremely difficult to raise funds.

Moses has already paid the university application fees, accommodation deposit, passport fees and English language exam fees.

Please feel free to contact me with any questions or if you would like to meet Moses virtually.

“After I get my degree, I would like to work at a company where employees positively impact society with applications and technology, contributing to the technological development of the world. My ultimate goal is to develop my own software development company to take on similar challenges and provide opportunities for young people like me in Malawi."
