Mo’s Bottom Surgery Fundraiser

Donation protected
Hi, I’m Mo - a butch trans woman of colour living in London.

I work in queer nightlife and organise and volunteer in queer community. You might know me as a munch organiser, a Booter, a doorperson, a Vibeswatcher, a trans voice trainer, or through my participation in queer sober spaces. Or you might have been to an event I helped organise, or accessed hormones through the healthcare project I run with my partner, even if we’ve never met.

I’m fundraising for bottom surgery. This is a surgery I’ve been wanting and planning for on and off for several years, but I’ve ultimately realised that I need to draw on community support if I’m realistically going to make it happen, so that’s what I’m doing now. I know that this surgery would make a huge difference to my quality of life. I have struggled with suicidal ideation for as long as I can remember, as well as disordered eating and other dysfunctional attempts to cope with the deep discomfort I have always felt in my body. Going on Oestrogen has changed my life as much as being an active member of the lesbian and trans communities in London and I know that I need to take this leap in order to feel more comfortable in myself and interact with the world the way I want to.

I’ve been on the GIC waiting list since May 2020 and am still waiting for my first appointment and am not willing to rely on the NHS to provide any standard of care for my future as a trans woman in this country. The last week has proven to me just how little care those in power have towards me and those I love and how much we are capable of showing up for each other.

I’m finally reaching a place of stability in many other aspects of my life after a long period of tumultuousness, and this relative quiet has allowed me the clarity to recognise that I need to get this surgery in order to move forward into peace and stability. I know from experience that the NHS, the Government, and the cis-het world at large will not take care of me. We take care of each other and we will thank each other and we will see tomorrow.

If you can’t donate, that’s totally understandable, this is likely going to be a long process and I’m hoping to run some cool events to raise money, so there’ll be other opportunities to support my surgery fund later in this year.
