A Personal Statement
My name is Carole Curtis. I am 83 years old and have been financially independent throughout my life. Until recently, I had never had a mortgage over my home.
I am currently involved in legal proceedings before the Supreme Court of Queensland concerning a mortgage of $766,500 at 17% interest that was registered over my home. The matter is in the discovery stage and will proceed to mediation.
I dispute the circumstances in which this mortgage was entered into and am seeking the Court’s determination. As the case is ongoing, I am limited in what I can say publicly.
What I can say is this: the financial burden associated with these proceedings is overwhelming at my stage of life.
This fundraiser exists for one purpose — to allow me to maintain my home and meet essential legal and living costs while the Court process runs its course.
Why I Am Seeking Support
Over a period of time, I entered into financial arrangements that I now contest and which are the subject of court proceedings.
I have been educated, self-employed, and financially responsible all my life. I am not seeking sympathy — I am seeking the opportunity to see due process completed without losing the home I worked for.
Senior Counsel are currently acting for me, and the matter is being addressed through proper legal channels.
The Court will determine the facts.
