Morrie’s Last Ride: Helping Him Finish His Journey
Donation protected
My name is Alan-Maurice Kayanan and I am the eldest son of Maurice Kayanan III. It is my duty to inform the world that Morrie was admitted to the Medical Center in Parañaque, Metro Manila at 8:46 am on July 6, 2025. Famous for the size and generosity of his heart, in the end, it was also his undoing. A massive heart attack took his pulse, stilled his laughter, and brought an end to our dear Morrie's life. The dedicated doctors used every means available to them, including laboring for over 30 minutes after his heart stopped to resuscitate my father.
His impression on all of us was profound. His bright, passionate influence amongst every human he cared for and worked with is unequivocal. As Husband, Grandfather, Father, Brother, Uncle, Cousin, Teacher, Mentor, and cherished Friend, his sudden absence from our lives has caused ripples of shock and grief across the globe. It all happened so fast. In the span of a single morning, the thing was done. His loss has caused a great disturbance in the Force. Never challenge Death to a pillow fight, unless you are ready to handle the reaper cushions. Whether you knew him through his incredible work ethic, his epic laugh, or his profound kindness, Morrie was THERE. Now, in the blink of an eye, he's not.
If you didn't already know, dying is really expensive; funerals and cremation too. Morrie retired to Manila with his U.S. Social Security as his only income. At the time of his death, my father was supporting his wife, Maloy, as she battles Stage III Ovarian Cancer. He was quiet about it, but I understand that he was also using his meager means to improve the quality of life for many of Maloy's family. With his passing, there is no safety net. There is no savings account to apply to our situation. Enter: GoFundMe. (But no pressure. Just, you know, the LAST favor Morrie would ask for.)
The funds for this GoFundMe fundraiser will fund three unexpected major expenses. One: Morrie's last visit to the Medical Center. Two: Morrie's Manila wake, viewing, and ultimately, an exam to Urn his cremation. Three: I will fly to Manila, represent his American brethren through the services, and conduct Morrie's last plane trip home; quickly leading to his ashes taking to the wind, soaring over the scenic overlooks of Virginia's Skyline Drive.
Please do these two things. The keys to success for this fundraiser relies on you completing both steps:
1) Chip in a little bit of love/money, please. If we ALL participate just a smidge, we'll make our goal easily!
2) Share this link far and wide. Share it with your inner circle, your social media pages, and the random guy you talk to at the coffee shop. The more we spread the word, the easier this becomes. Morrie, and I, would deeply appreciate it.
