Hi, my name is Mary Chiang. I am a full time theology student in California. I lived in Morocco for 16 years prior to the COVID pandemic. I began as an English teacher and student adventurer. Later I worked, walked, and traveled, throughout Morocco and Europe alongside seekers of the beautiful and meaningful things of life. Moroccans have always shown me generous hospitality from meals, deep conversations over cups of mint tea and laughter. They are a people of integrity and they keep their word. I want to help my friend by extending his request for help on the Moroccan Building Project.
I started this Go Fund Me to fundraise $34,500 toward rebuilding six homes devastated by the earthquake in Morocco on Sept 8, 2023. I am seeking communities who are interested in adopting the Morocco Building Project through financial donations, prayers, and collective rejoicing for each home rebuilt.
[UPDATE on 11/3/3023: Mr. Youssef Bendarbaida (my Moroccan friend) is working with Caleb Kim (my old neighbor) to purchase 12 containers which will serve as temporary homes until they are able to begin building.
Your donations will be sent to Caleb Kim via Zelle and he will wire the money to Youssef Bendarbaida to help pay for the temporary homes.
The present amount of $1725 (minus GFM's fees) will pay for only a fraction of what he has ordered. Any more donations will be sent through the same way.
THANK YOU so much for your attention and care for my beloved Moroccan friends and neighbors. ]
We also collect donations toward urgent needs like food, medicine, and blankets. But these will go into a separate fund. ( Overall, 10% will go to Youssef Bendarbaida who is gathering all the necessary information of the homes and families as well as securing the funds for the entire building project. The work is detailed, mundane, requires much time and collaboration with multiple community and government networks. 3% will go toward wiring fees. Go Fund me charges 2.9% + $0.30 directly from each donation.)
Every donation is greatly appreciated and allocated according to your interest. Thank you for your compassion, thoughts, kind words and contribution in response to Morocco's devastating earthquake. God bless.
