Morocco Oasis - Water is Life
Donation protected
Hello, my name is Andréa Worthoff. I visited the Draa Valley Oasis, Morocco in Feb. 2021 and in Feb. 2022. Within this one year I saw negative impact on ecosystem, changes in vegetation due to lack of rain/water, needed to sustain life.
The well pumps in this village continually break and hand digging 40 ft deep for water is just incredibly hard work and too much manpower.
Water is Life, and the most precious resource in the Sahara desert, Draa Valley & Oasis, Morocco and other parts. It is the human necessity needed for sustainability for thousands of people.
I am seeking to raise money to support the village, Ouled Othmane where I stayed in Draa Valley, La Ferme Ecolodge that supply’s water for their botanical and vegetable plant garden and neighboring land vegetable gardens.
Why does it matter?
The Ouled Othmane Oasis borders the Sahara desert and is a buffer zone between oasis and desert to prevent desertification. But it is vulnerable to climate change, rising harsh temperatures (120°F)/, lack of rainfall (only .50 inch/year). The implications mean severe drought/deterioration of the Palmerie, loss of agriculture (dates/vegetables) and the livelihoods of thousands of indigenous (Berber Amazigh) people. They depend on the oasis to sustain themselves and their families, especially during drought season (June-October).

I am starting this GoFundMe page to raise $2000 to fix broken pipes and build a bigger pipeline that supplies water from the Draa River/well to the oasis. The impact will supply water to many families in the village. Please consider a donation. Your donation will be sent directly to the cooperative.
