Morocco Earthquake: Emergency help for Orphans

Hi, my name is Sophia Barhmi and I’m a Moroccan residing in Norway. I woke up days ago with the devastating news that my country has been hit with a 6.8 magnitude earthquake. I made it a mission to use my network to help.

The recent earthquake in Morocco has terribly destroyed the life of thousands of people, yet the bigger bearer of this price are the kids in the villages left with no parents, no family and no one to rely on.

This fundraising is aimed mainly to support the orphans with their re-integration into society through making sure they get fed, clothed, educated and supported mentally.

These are kids that have lost everything, but not their faith in society. These are the next generation of Moroccans and it is our duty as a society to support them and be their wings after such a traumatic event.

This fundraiser has been started because I wanted to make sure that every penny given will be traced and directly spent on the orphans post earthquake.

Every update regarding the trajectory and daily actions will be followed through.

My mother, who has been a professor to deaf children her entire life and had the cause of orphan children and children with disabilities in her heart and work for the last 45 years, recently retired and moved to helping orphans all around the country, along with Ayadi Al Amal, a local Charity in Rabat.

Ayadi Al Amal is an organisation my mother has been working with closely. Their main focus has been helping orphans re-integrate into society and feel loved and supported. This fundraiser will initially work closely with them to help ensure a safe future to the orphans from the earthquake.

Their work is unbelievable and reflects the values we all stand for as a society.

This is a time where we need every human’s help. This is a time where we stand strong as a society and help the most vulnerable ones of us. The ones who are too young to stand on their own, the ones who’s life has been destroyed. This is time to show our humanity.

Mission structure: 

The funds will be deployed as follow: 

- An initial amount of 1000 euros is deployed as an emergency relief to the local Charity in Rabat Ayadi Al Amal, through my mother and her colleagues. 

The first steps are to head to the villages impacted by the earthquake near Marrakech with first basic needs for the kids such as: 

Food, baby formulas, tents, blankets and medicine. 

- The second strategy is a long term vision of the help. We are in discussion with Atlas Kinder to deploy funds aimed at the long term support of the kids:

Our main mission is to support these children in the long run: we do not want the funds to only cover temporary reliefs. We want to sponsor and support their futures. 

Through the first step, the identification and search for the orphans will go through- to then be able to locate and register these orphans and put them in the right Orphan houses. 

The second part of the funds will cover sponsoring each kid in the orphan houses for full education length (primary, secondary and high school), commitment to provide continuous psychological therapy from day one (this is our main focus as the traumatic experience lived by these children, if not addressed, can be a negative definitive turning factor in their development.
