Morgan's Fire Recovery Fund

Hi everyone, guess what? Our friend Morgan's house just burned down. The whole damn thing and she lost everything. Let’s raise some money to help her out and if you have any leads on furnished rental housing in the Boston area for the winter, please let us know.

When I first met Morgan, her only possessions were her grandfather's Toyota Camry, a winning smile, and I think like 3 dozen clipboards for all the door to door canvassing she did as a young campaign organizer. We were barely twenty years old and owning lots of things wasn't cool. Morgan and I were so cool we didn't even really have mailing addresses let alone full wardrobes or home appliances. That was 15 years ago, and while Morgan is still quite cool and her smile is just as winning, she's grown up now and had beautifully created a home and a community for herself. But on October 2nd there was a six alarm fire in Morgan’s neighborhood and her condo was completely destroyed. Morgan spent the last few years curating her home - the first and only place she's owned - to best represent her. Crown molding and glass door knobs, pretty paint colors and family heirlooms. I stayed in her house when it was stripped down and empty, ready to be refurbished. I slept on the floor when the paint was still drying and the refrigerator she'd picked out was being delivered. Last summer I slept in her guest room, the entire place perfectly appointed, sleeping next to the grandfather clock in the hallway that I remember seeing 15 years ago in her parents house in Newton. It's all gone now, and while Morgan will never lose that smile, nor her resilient and beautiful spirit, the girl needs like, a tootbrush.

Morgan is lucky enough to have insurance, but what it offers sadly just doesn't cut it. So we’re raising money to help make sure she has some funds to help her through all of this. In addition to funds, we're keeping an eye out for affordable furnished rental properties in the Boston area through the Winter. Thanks for chipping in. ~Graeme
