Morganne and Scott's twins' TAPS journey
Donation protected
Our good friends Morganne and Scott are expecting twins. Unfortunately, the excitement over the news didn’t last long.
What should be such a joyous time in their life has turned into a season of worry and uncertainty over the fate of their twin babies.
After an extremely challenging first trimester for Morganne they soon found out through early tests that there were potential problems concerning the babies’ development and growth. While never getting concrete answers, the doctors painted a grim picture of the chances that both babies would make it.
Because the small hospital in Trail, BC, where they live, could not give them any answers they had to go to Vancouver to consult with a team of specialists. This is where they found out that their twin babies suffer from TAPS (Twin anemia polycythemia sequence), a rare condition that affects the blood count between the babies and poses a severe risk for their lives if they don’t get surgery immediately.
Because they couldn’t perform the surgery in Vancouver, Morganne and Scott had to fly to Toronto last minute at their own expense for an unforeseeable length of time for the twins to get surgery in utero to hopefully save the lives of one or both of the babies.
Even with the surgery, their future is full of unknowns as they could spend weeks or months in Toronto and/or Vancouver for more treatments and NICU stays for their babies.
We are reaching out to you to ask for your support in raising funds to cover the cost of flights and accommodation for Morganne and Scott (and care for their pup, Piper and two cats they had to leave behind in Trail BC) during this challenging time. Your generous contributions will help alleviate the financial stress on the family, hopefully allowing them to focus entirely on the next steps and their babies’ well-being.
