Morgan and Carson Byers Education Fund

Dear Friends,

As so many know, our community suffered a tremendous loss last week with the sudden passing of Tom Byers. He leaves behind many, many dear friends and a heartbroken family that includes his wife Barbara and their two children, Morgan (15) and Carson (13), as well as his mother Mary and brother Robin. Tom was an unbelievably committed father and husband, utterly devoted to his children and wife. They traveled the globe together - from Greece to England to Portugal, Spain, Canada, and beyond -throughout the US and up and down California. But as much as they loved being on the road, they were equally happy at home in Novato, watching movies on the couch or having friends come by for a barbecue and glass of wine in the backyard. Tom adored Barbara- she was his everything. And Morgan and Carson were his greatest joy. Tom coached Carson in baseball for many years and they played golf together multiple times a week. Tom had even begun caddying for Carson in tournaments. Morgan was the apple of his eye and Tom never missed any of her many, many games and activities. Recently, he could regularly be seen shuttling Morgan and her friends around Marin- right at home as her chauffeur. And when Morgan's 8th grade class slept over (of course Tom and Barbara hosted), Tom was up early cooking pancakes and taking care of everyone. That's just what he did and who he was. And if you were a friend, you were family. Tom was generous, funny, smart and at the ready to help grill or run to the store for ice or carry in supplies. He was a doer and loyal and his friends will miss him and his dry sense of humor so very much. He lived a full and amazing life in sixty years, but was certainly taken far too soon. He will be so, so  very missed.

The family appreciates the love and support from their community, and know that it will be needed and cherished in the months and years ahead. At this time, facing a life without Tom seems impossible. We will lift them up in love.
