Help Morgana rebuild her life after auto accident
Donation protected
My name is Dayton Knipher in Tacoma, WA, and I am Morgana Birt's godmother and helper. Morgana is 42 years old and on disability for a disease called Lupus, but she hasn't let that stop her from trying to live independently as well as helping others when she can. Morgana has had a very rough year and 1/2.
In 2024, through no fault of her own, she ended up homeless and living in her car. I helped her get turned around, and in March of 2025 she moved into an apartment in a safe place suitable for a single disabled woman. Her Lupus and the trauma of being homelss prevented her from going to work right away, so I paid for a month of rent and a storage unit where she had put all her worldly belongings during her time of homelessness. I have also helped her with gas in her car, medicine she needs for her Lupus and other critical things for her well-being. She does get a small amout of disability payments to help with monthly needs, but it isn't enough to cover her rent. She needs to work in order to pay her rent. She was pulling the rent together for the first few months of living in her apartment, but a dire situation has occurred that prevents her from working.
The emergency circumstances Morgana now finds herself in is that, on June 16th 2025, a truck hauling a trailer hit her car in a lane where she was stopped and waiting to make a left hand turn. The truck and trailer took out the entire the right (passenger) side of her 2003 Toyota Highlander. The car is driveable, but seriously damaged. Morgana went to the emergency room and was diagnosed with a concussion and has been very, very ill. She is falling down, dizzy and barely able to take care of herself at this time. She found an attorney to help her get money from the at fault driver's insurance company for totaling her car, but the attorney came back with the information that the at fault driver was uninsured. Morgana's auto insurance does not have uninsured motorist so there is no option for an insurance settlement or a personal injury settlement. Without this money, Morgana has had no way to earn money and pay her rent. She has appealed to her church (who are dragging their feet on helping her financially), appealing to her landlord, who has been patient and let her stay while owing 3 months rent, and appealed to other sources for a way to get help with rent - including rescue missions and shelters.
Morgana's landlord has finally given her a 15 day pay or vacate notice due to now being a full 3 months behind on rent. She has nowhere to go except back on the streets because I don't have a place where she can stay with me. She has been estranged from her family for a very long time, and they are not ones to be supportive and help her in time of need. Rather she is afraid of her grandmother and her other known relatives other than her brother who is in no position to help her. Morgana really needs to be able to stay in the apartment she is living in so she can heal from her concussion and start to pull her life together again. She is registered at Tacoma Community College to start in September, so she can get on track with a new career path, but right now she needs to be able to rest and heal from her concussion. She needs help in paying for her past 3 months of rent and for the next 4 to 5 months of rent while she is in school. With only 11 days left to come up with her rent for June, July and now August, this is a true emergency for Morgana.
My gofundme request is for the money it will take to pay this rent and utilities currently due and support her with rent and utilities through Dec of 2025 while she is in school.
I am a 75 year old woman of very modest means, so am unable to financially help Morgana myself. Please consider helping Morgana in this critical time in her life. I don't know how to use Social Media or get the word out, so I'm hoping whoever reads this will pass it on and get the word out for us. Please consider funding Morgana so she can live in her safe apartment through the end of 2025. This is a dire emergency in her life and I know she would greatly appreciate any help that is given to her financially.
As far as how your donations are handled, I am setting up accepting donations in a set aside account strictly for Morgana and have been working with her landlord since March making sure her rent is paid (when money has been available), so will use any funds donated to pay the landlord directly. One of the pictures included in this appeal is her pay or vacate demand notice and now she owes one more month of rent.
Thank you so very much for any help you can provide.
