Morgan's Study Abroad Adventure in Ghana

Hello! My name is Morgan Myers and I am a junior majoring in Health Science with an emphasis in Health and Wellness, at the University of Missouri- Columbia (Mizzou). I am fundraising for my study abroad trip in Ghana this summer! During my time in Ghana, I will have the chance to stay at the Dagbe Cultural Institute and Arts Center, a place known for preserving West African and Ewe culture. I will also be able to further my education through service at the local school. I will be working with local Ghanian teachers and collaborate on approaches to meet the academic needs of each of their students. This will be achieved through creating lesson plans, supporting play therapy, supporting English and Math education and creating presentations on health issues!
Why is this cause important?
This trip means the world to me for a few reasons. I have always had a passion for working with children and teaching them the value of health and wellness. The children of Ghana face many health challenges, but with my academic focus in healthcare, and my passion for children I believe I can leave a positive impact! As a future healthcare professional, I know the importance of working with people of different backgrounds. Being able to go to Ghana and not only share my knowledge but also gain knowledge from the people of Ghana will definitely broaden my horizons. Throughout my life, pediatric nursing has always stood out to me in terms of choosing a career. Being able to teach students at the local school about health issues is a huge opportunity for me to get hands on experience. I don’t just want to help others but instead I want to make an impact on their lives. I want to know I truly made a difference through my service! I believe I will come back from this trip with more insight on how to help children all over the world conquer health and wellness challenges.
Cost
Cost is a huge aspect of making my dream come true! The money raised will be used to cover several expenses of the trip. Including the study abroad course and administrative fees, out of state student fees, the program fee, travel expenses, a passport, and meals!
