Morgan Shanahan & Fam Need Our Help
Donation protected
While 2020 has been rough for us all, our dear friend Morgan Shanahan and her family have faced a series of setbacks that have become emotionally and financially overwhelming. Between June and August Morgan and her husband Scott both lost their jobs. We are hoping to raise enough money to cover 2 to 3 months of living expenses for the Shanahan family while they get back on their feet.
These expenses include life-sustaining treatment for Morgan's daughter Delilah (age 10). Sweet Dee was diagnosed with Type 1 Diabetes in February of this year, along with Celiac disease. This week the Shanahan’s learned that the cost to continue their health insurance through COBRA will be $3000 a month. Morgan’s employer-sponsored insurance has been covering the cost of Delilah’s insulin ($435 a month) visits to her endocrinologist and gastroenterologist ($563 per visit every six weeks) and two separate medical devices that help keep her healthy.
Morgan, an active member of our blogging community, has hired so many of us over the years, at BlogHer, BuzzFeed, and this past year working with many bloggers and content creators to author books at the publishing house that just let her go.
She is entitled to unemployment, but due to a previously unknown identity theft incident the state of California just told the Shanahans that those funds will be delayed at least two months while they investigate.
And because 2020 still isn't done being the worst, their car was totaled last week by a construction crew, and their insurance company LOST THE CAR after they took it to asses the damage. They will get insurance money for that, eventually, but it's likely going to take a couple months.
THANK YOU so much for helping us help our friend Morgan!
