Morgan Michael Memorial Fund

Morgan Michael (August 5, 1996 - June 12, 2020)

My gorgeous niece Morgan was stolen from our family by a drunk driver on June 12.

My sister, Darletta, and her husband, Kirk, received a knock on their door at 4 a.m. that Friday morning. Two deputies were there to deliver news that no parent should ever hear. They were told their youngest daughter was in a tragic car accident and she didn't survive.

It happened just moments before Morgan and the love of her life, Tucker Crowley, were to pull into their hotel for the night in Amarillo. They were going to head to Angel Fire, New Mexico, the next morning with Tucker's family for a weekend getaway.

In the blink of an eye, our lives were forever changed.

A drunk driver sped through a red light and plowed into them. Tucker's pickup was slammed into a utility pole. A passerby stopped to render aid but it was too late, Morgan was already gone.  Tucker was fighting for his life when first responders arrived. He had to be Careflited to a trauma hospital in Lubbock where he remains with multiple severe injuries and a broken heart.

Beautiful girl, beautiful soul

Morgan's outward beauty was the first thing people noticed but it took only seconds to learn that her true beauty came from within. She had a special way of bringing out the best in others because she believed there was goodness in everyone. Her very being made you want to be a better person.

She was the real deal. Morgan was beautiful, kind, smart, funny, loving and sassy!  And, I know she touched more lives in her 23 years than most people touch in 100.

She loved

Morgan loved dogs, cats, horses, and, recently, she discovered she loved cows. She loved clothes and looking cute! She loved her cowgirl hats. She loved cowgirl boots and shoes. She loved education. She loved "being social." She loved sunsets. She loved drinking wine and craft beers. She loved going to the Fort Worth Stockyards with Tucker. She loved dreaming about her future.

But, most of all, Morgan loved her mom; her dad; her brother, Dalton; her sister Kelsie; and Tucker, the love of her life. She loved all of her family and friends. She loved Jesus.

She loved with her whole heart.  And everyone who knew Morgan loved her back.

I'm not sure how our family will go on without her, but I know she will be guiding us every step of the way. I pray that our tears will eventually become smiles when we think of her. I know that's what she would want.

Honoring her memory

Last year, Morgan graduated with honors from the Mayborn School of Journalism at the University of North Texas in Denton. She had started a promising career as a marketing communications specialist for a software company. We know she was on the path to greatness!

We will never understand why she was taken from us so soon and so senselessly, but Darletta and Kirk have decided to create a scholarship fund for deserving young women at UNT's Mayborn School of Journalism.

Please help them honor their precious daughter's memory by making a donation of any amount.

And, I also ask that you keep our family, along with Tucker and his family, in your prayers. Our lives will never be the same without this special soul.
