The MAD (MORE American Dreams) Voyage & Nomadic NFT Treasure Hunt will highlight people who are pursuing their Dreams and place homeless youth into permanent supportive housing.
The American Dream is a vast concept integral to the identity of America, yet the interpretation of what that means is very personal. For the majority of people, their individual hopes, ambitions & aspirations reflect their idea of the American Dream.
If we don't follow our dreams they may turn into nightmares later in life. The best way to encourage people to pursue their dreams is to show individuals who are living their dreams. So I decided to go looking for MORE American Dreams & document my voyage across the back roads of America in a 30’ RV for a multi-part documentary series, book, traveling exhibition & now also a Nomadic NFT Treasure Hunt.
20% of all funds raised by the Nomadic NFT Treasure Hunt over the next year will be used to take as many homeless youths as possible off the streets & place them into permanent supportive housing by MAD partner Umatt3r, a not-for-profit homeless youth organization in Chicago.
On the first day of every month, a Collection of 30 geotagged NFTs will be released in a live auction that will finish the day before the next Collection mints. One NFT in each Collection will contain directions to find buried Treasure.
When the owner of the winning NFT goes to the location where that NFT was photographed, they will find a key that will unlock the buried treasure. In some places, the key will be physical and in others the key will be digital, so it will be found in the metaverse location for that spot.
Born in England to Polish parents, a nomadic life came early for me. After my parents divorced when I was eight, I attended 13 schools, started hitch-hiking at 11, slept on the streets of Birmingham at 15 & the streets of Paris at 17. I moved to Bristol at 19 and Rotterdam a year later. At 22 I hitch-hiked with $40 from Greece to Berlin before The Wall came down. The following year found me in Miami studying meditation during the time portrayed in the movie Scarface. I moved to Australia two years later where I raised my daughter as a solo parent. I've now lived in 24 cities/towns across seven countries.
After working in factories, building sites, restaurant kitchens and retail stores, I found my first camera at a bus stop in Bath when I was 24 & decided at 27 to prove it possible to make a living from taking pictures within one year. I've subsequently shot for clients such as Rolling Stone, NY Times, BMG Music & Getty Museum, amongst many others.
Over the last 30 years I have also created giant interactive installations & events that have explored the connections between art & recycling, including the 30’ x 20’ Recycle sculpture standing at the entrance to the largest recycling center in the southern hemisphere in Sydney, Australia.
I co-founded the Mutoid Waste Co. in 1990 when I built Carhenge, spawned a sub-culture with Imagineer in 1992 & since 1996 have created art as MORE (Ministry Of Random Events). Installations have included the MORE Drums, which were on Governors Island in NYC Harbor from 2009 to 2012 & at Burning Man in 2015.
As well as housing homeless youth and encouraging people to follow their dreams, the multi-faceted MAD Voyage will also provide a forum for a much-needed conversation about the American Dream, what it means today and where it's going.
Your contribution to the MAD Voyage will pay for costs incurred in my 30' RV as I drive around the country, including gas, food and repairs if required. It will also fund the updating and maintaining of websites and social media, as well as minting NFT's whilst on the road.
Thank you for your time and your contribution. Please share this fundraiser with your friends and on social media.
I am grateful to the Foundation for Art & Blockchain (FAB) for their support with the MAD Voyage & Nomadic NFT Treasure Hunt.
