More Than Tracy Turnblad at the Edinburgh Fringe

Hi! My name is Abby Morris, and I host More Than Tracy Turnblad , the podcast about fat representation in entertainment and media. Plus size performers like myself are almost always limited to roles that are either demeaning and stereotypical, or, well, Tracy Turnblad, the singular young fat lead in all of musical theatre. Out of my frustration with this, I wrote More Than Tracy Turnblad, a cabaret exploring and challenging the demeaning fat tropes commonly found in entertainment.

The stage version of More Than Tracy Turnblad was last performed in 2019, before the pandemic prompted me to adapt it into a podcast. But now that live performances are coming back, so is the show - and I'm taking it to the Edinburgh Fringe, aka the world's largest arts festival! I've secured venues at theSpace, right in the heart of Edinburgh, and will be performing August 15-20 and 22-27. I strongly believe in the importance of body size diversity in the arts, and I can't think of a better place to spread this message than the largest arts festival in the world! I am incredibly excited to take my show across the Atlantic.

Bringing a show to the Fringe is a HUGE undertaking, logistically and financially. Between paying for the venue, housing for our team of four, flights and other transportation, and miscellaneous production costs like costumes, props, rehearsal space, publicity, etc. - it will take about $7000 to make this happen.
