On Sept 16: approximately around 10:30p- The Rockaway Point Fire Department responded to a complaint of a possible hurt animal. Upon arrival, a dog was found unable to use his rear legs, and was clearly in distress. With the assistance of the Rescue Lieutenant of the Rockaway Point Fire Department and faithful compatriots, we successfully extricated “Myles” to the nearest 24/7 Veterinary Hospital where we were met with warm hearts and experienced hands. Unfortunately, although Myles was chipped it seems like he was abandoned due to a chronic arthritis issue as well as his inability to move his hind legs. Myles was in excruciating pain and I could not leave him there to suffer. As a Good Samaritan there are no laws in NYC that pay for the bills of the veterinary care. Because of this, I had to pay out of pocket. The first night alone the bill has been 1400 dollars. I am currently trying to find an organization that is willing to take care of the future costs as well as find a furever home for Myles. He is a senior dog, but has so much love to give. Please help me give proper care to Myles, who I could possibly not have left alone without offering him some help.
