Dear Audience,

My name is Martijn Koolstra, im a visual artist living and working in Rotterdam, the Netherlands.i

A meme in the Netherlands is a woman on a moped packed with groceries making her way back home over the cyclingpaths of this country.

It is an image representing travel and economy, and placed in different environments it represents and celebrates the leap in the unknown.

In 2010 i made the first model after this image, and an animation with this image in it. Also i made a version of this model during a sculpture symposium in Penza, Russia.

In 2013 i made a third version which ended up on a The Hague harbour dock in public space, where it still stands today.

The times have dramatically changed during the past years which have put the theme of travel under pressure again.

To persue the theme or dream of travel stuck with me, and i wanted to make a fourth version of the concept. I found a nice occasion and location to place the sculpture: the Harvest festival in September 2026 at Örhegy Art, Ravazd, Hungary!

I applied to their open call last winter and they invited me!

So far for the good news: Örhegy did not receive funding and neither did i.. Now we are stuck at the beginning of this adventurous making process and travel and we don't know if the meme can be placed at Ravazd!

I need funding for materials, travel, stay at the Örhegy Art place in Ravazd, and placing the sculpture..

And i wanted to ask you my friends, who all know the importance of travel and exchange of ideas to help me by funding my travelbudget for this art project!
