Mooshka Memorial Fund

Kevin Cecil Cata (Mooshka), the Native American artist who touched so many lives, has left this world. During his nearly 53 years, he exemplified positivity, friendliness, kookiness and compassion. He expressed all these characteristics (and more) in his unique art work.

Born in Los Angeles to a Native American father and an Irish American mother,  Mooshka showed an interest in art almost immediately.

When he was 18, he created 3 murals with other Native American artists for the 1984 Olympics in Los Angeles. In 1985, he moved to San Francisco and his art continued to flourish and began to reflect Mooshka's love of the wild and wacky, as well as the tribal and topical.

His work also reflected the challenges he faced with AIDS. Mooshka's unique and vibrant "pill art" adorn the walls of the legendary ward 86 at San Francisco General Hospital, just one of many hospitals, clinics, infusion and cancer centers where he was well known and deeply loved.

His work was varied, but always had the Mooshka touch. Kachina dolls, pastels, paintings, stupas, hairdos, sculpture, fabrics and sketches were all part of his expression and creation. "Art has always been a part of my life," he said.

Giving was too. He gave beyond his means. His generosity is legend, despite his attempts to hide it. He never questioned whether he could afford to help, he just did it. And he did it without being asked.

Now, you have a chance to say thank you back to Mooshka in a way he would have loved. Chris and Mooshka's family need help with the financial expenses associated with his death like cremation, legal fees and a memorial.

Please consider making a donation today in his memory to help out with these immediate expenses. This account was set up by Dan Willson and is managed by Chris Robinson, the love of Mooshka's life. The proceeds will go to Chris Robinson and Mooshka's family.
