Why I started this fundraiser

I've been on testosterone since October 2022 and want to have top surgery by the time I'm 30. Unfortunately, this doesn't look possible with the NHS which has incredibly long waiting times for gender-affirming healthcare. I was referred in September 2019 and have yet to be invited for an initial appointment at the gender identity clinic, let alone receive any treatment. I didn't want to keep waiting so I decided to go private with my trans healthcare. It was absolutely the right choice for me and I've been happy with the treatment so far, but it does mean that I have extra costs on top of my usual bills. My family have been helping me financially with these costs but I would love to start saving up for top surgery now and don't wish to burden them further financially speaking.

How much I'm asking for

Currently, I have set a goal of £5,000. The average top surgery cost in the UK appears to be £6k - 8k if going private. It's possible I may travel outside of the UK to Poland or Turkey as it can cost less (around €4,500 - €5,000). I will adjust once I have a better idea of surgery costs. Any money not spent on the surgery itself will go towards the following: • Post-surgery aftercare e.g. medication • Surgery bras and any other appropriate clothing • Travel expenses for hospital visits • Financial support for my recovery period, in case I lose work as a result Please share this fundraiser and thank you for any support you show me!
