Help Moose Get Surgery!

Hello there humans, my name is Moose!

I am pretty nervous to be writing this and I know my humans are nervous about it too. We know that life is always extremely chaotic and so many others have big needs and my mom was not wanting to ask for help for me but after a lot of peer pressure she finally let me do this!

I will give you a little glimpse into my story, where I have been, what I have endured, and where I need to be...it's a lot to explain, buckle up for a wild ride!

  • I have been in my humans (you know them by Sarah and Chris, I know them as mom and dad) lives since 2018 when I was around 4 years old...and let's just say I don't have the typical adoption story that you'd think.
  • You see...I didn't always live with my mom & dad, I had a different family at first. I'm known to get scared pretty easily and ran away from my first home for TWO...WHOLE...WEEKS...and when I returned I wasn't in great shape, even though I acted totally chill about it.
  • Upon my return from my wild adventure, my previous human brought me to the dogtor at Central Animal Hospital where I was very lucky to meet the dynamic duo and dream team "Sarah Squared" (you guessed it! MY OWN MOM, Sarah Alley, was working at the vet at the time with MY OWN GOD MOM, Dr. Sarah Taylor!)
  • Even though I acted totally chill and cool it was very obvious to Sarah Squared that I had some extensive injuries that were likely from being hit by a car (boy oh boy, I am so fluffin' scared of cars!)
  • One of my back legs was broken at the growth plate (Sarah Squared says they could like see my bones and my leg was hanging like a limp noodle - umm...gross!). I was running a high fever, and was scraped up all over my back and other legs...and I had never been vaccinated before (I WAS 4 YEARS OLD - what the FLUFF!!)
  • This kind of fracture is not easily fixed with a cast or splint and typically requires specialty surgery or...*gulp* AMPUTATION!
  • At this point I was still under the care of my previous human...and she "did not want a three legged dog" (???) and denied any speciality surgeries that would prevent amputation. Sarah Squared worked with my previous human as much as they could - I had regular visits (1-3 times a week) to get new splints, laser therapy, medications, etc.
(Pic of me getting some laser therapy below..dang I look cute in doggles)

  • Even with Sarah Squared doing everything they could to get me to my best health, my previous human did not follow up with the extensive care I needed and was stunting my ability to heal at all...and after many long phone calls, discussions, and back and forth changes of mind, my previous human finally agreed to surrender me over to my now mom (Sarah).
  • A few week passed and now that I was being fully taken care of and under close restriction and supervision , my leg began to HEAL! Sarah Squared fully intended to proceed with amputation but were shocked that the bones were healing great!
  • Now that my leg was healed I was finally able to get all my normal dogtor stuff done! Vaccinations, bloodwork, preventions, kisses, hugs, etc. etc. etc.
  • You think the story would end here, right?! WRONG! Once I got my bloodwork back I learned I was...*gulp* HEART WORM POSITIVE!!!! (WHAT THE FLUFFIN' FLUFF?!?!)
  • I then went through heart worm treatment and let me tell you guys something...if you don't know what that treatment is...LOOK. IT. UP. That stuff is NOT fun and is completely avoidable if you keep us pets on preventative care!

FAST FORWARD TO 2025:
I really have been living the most fun, exciting life! I get the zoomies like crazy and have literally like 40,000 toys (39,900 of them being my favorite..LAMB CHOP!) I didn't even know toys were a thing until I started living with Sarah, Chris, Graice, and Lucipurr!?! I
My leg never gave me any troubles....until the end of 2025.
  • My mom noticed I had a limp and took me back to see Dr. Sarah Taylor, where I was given pain medications, had radiographs done, and a full exam. My radiographs and exam really did not show any major injuries and we treated my leg as just being sore or sprained (I mean it was broken all those years ago so it's expected I would be kinda sore eventually).
  • Over time my mom finally realized that it was in fact NOT my previously broken leg that was giving me troubles...it was my GOOD LEG!! My mom is pretty dang smart because she immediately called Dr. Sarah Taylor and said some crazy words I didn't understand...something about me having a "torn croo-she-it in [my] good leg".
  • So we had to go back to Dr. Sarah Taylor and then to the speciality dogtor at Blue Pearl, where it was confirmed I had a tear in my cruciate and would need a fluffin' BIG surgery to repair it.

All this to say...I hear I am really the goodest boy in the whole world and I know that have been so lucky to get all top notch quality care and love from the best humans around...but I also know my mom and dad are really worried about the big fat bill that comes with this surgery and the extra bills for rehab and therapy (can't a dog catch a break?!). I will be getting the surgery even if we get zero donations, so do not worry about that! (EVEN THOUGH I AM A BIG SCARDY CAT AND DO NOT WANT TO BE AWAY FROM MOM AND DAD OR HAVE SURGERY!!)

We know that times are really ruff and tuff for a lot of us right now (what the fluff is going on in the world?!) but we appreciate any donation you can make. I know my humans are really out here workin' day and night to keep me, Gracie, and Lucipurr in the best health (after spending a couple bands on them the last few years...what do they expect though, Gracie is 14 years old with Congestive Heart Failure (she takes like 100 medications, what the fluff??) and Lucipurr had a urinary blockage and now gets only the best food and care..*cough* diva *cough*. )

Anyways, sorry for the rambling and the super long post! Thank you for taking the time to read about me and thank you for the love you give me and my humans.

Xoxo,
Moose
(aka Moosie, the Mamushka, Goosie, Goose, and whatever wild things my humans decide to call me.)
