Moose has been the light of our life ever since we got her in April 2021. We need your help with upcoming medical expenses for a TECA surgery that is going to improve Moose’s quality of life.
Moose has been dealing with ongoing ear infections since August 2023. We are not for certain where these ear infection stemmed from, but have an idea that they started after we went swimming during our camping trip. If you know moose you know that she is a water baby, and the second she sees water she is jumping in, which is typically fine, but we think that this certain swimming spot of water possibly had bacteria in it that we were unaware of. Typically we keep up with all of the algae & bacteria outbreaks, but this was an off-road spot, & we asaw another couple with the dogs swimming, so we figured everything was okay. A few days or so after camping we noticed Moose was really sensitive with her ears and being lethargic, which is abnormal for her - especially since at that time she was a 2 year old with a lot of energy. We took her into the vet and let them know that we did go swimming and that we thought she had an ear infection. At that time, the vet did not think she had an ear infection and so they basically just gave us ear cleaner and ointment, and sent us on the way. That did not fix the issue so we had to go back again and I advocated for my dog stating she needs antibiotics. We were still being told she does not have an ear infection and got another ointment and no antibiotics. The same scenario went on from August 2023 till about February 2024, (we did not get a 2nd opinion because we are on this vets insurance plan to save money because we are low income). Over that period of time, Moose’s ears would slightly get better and then the infection would come back with a vengeance. I finally had to get stern with the vet and say this is an infection, that they need to take this seriously and I’m not leaving without antibiotics. We finally received our first round of antibiotics, but unfortunately, at that point in time, the bacteria had such a long time to grow that it was not responding to the antibiotic. Then this scenario proceeded from February 2024 until now honestly, she has been on about 6 different types of antibiotics over that course of time, and none have been able to cure the infection. Moose has now been dealing with ongoing ear infection issues since August 2023. I do believe if the vet would’ve taken us seriously at the beginning, we could’ve prevented it getting to this point, but unfortunately, they did not take it seriously as an infection & once they had, it was at the point where the infection is antibiotic resistant. Moose is a completely different dog than she once was. She sleeps all day. She can only play for a minimal amount of time before her ears start bugging her, and she can’t stop shaking her head. She barely wants to eat, and the only time that we can get her energy up is when she takes her gabapentin - and she has had to take a gabapentin for about a year now. Now, unfortunately, our only option is getting TECA surgery. The surgery involves removing the inner ear canal, and sewing it shut. Our Moosey girl will unfortunately be (mainly) deaf after this surgery. We do have vet insurance through the provider that we’ve been seeing and unfortunately, the surgery is going to be out-of-pocket and something we are gonna have to pay on our own. They let us know it’s $250 for rhe consultation, and anywhere from $7k to $10k for the surgery cost. Me and Alfredo (Moose’s dad) unfortunately are not billionaires, and are on a fixed income and we need your help so that we can keep our baby alive, and healthy, and back to her normal self. If you know Moose, you know how much love she has to give and how much happiness she brings, and we don’t wanna live a life without her. Please consider donating whatever you can and know we appreciate whatever contributions you can provide, we just want our baby to be okay. <3
