Hurricane Ian Moorhead Manor Flooding Rescue
Donation protected
Moorhead Manor is a 55+ retirement community of mobile homes situated about five feet above sea level in East Naples, Florida.
After the storm, one resident's daughter checked on her mother and noticed many people in their 70's and 80's sitting on their porches. They had yet even to begin moving things outside to dry. Many were attempting to sleep on wet mattresses in still-flooded mobile homes. Nearly all have no insurance. No help was on the way.
With the help of a few take-charge volunteers, our East Naples community banded together to help out the elderly residents. Donations began to pour in. The local Army recruitment office came, and even members of a local football team showed up.
Some residents are in varying stages of shock and have no choice but to stay in units with crumbling subflooring and mold, as they have nowhere else to go. The mold is quickly growing on anything damp. Many, anticipating the loss of roofs due to wind damage, put all their belongings on the floor to protect them from flying away. The storm surge has left a wake of destruction from which their photos and memories will never be salvaged. What CAN be salvaged is their safety and residence. A massive volunteer effort has been underway. The entire community of East Naples has been pitching in to help, many of whom have also lost their homes.
Volunteers have been doing everything they can manage. It is coming to the point that sending volunteers into the homes is no longer safe due to collapsing floors and moldy conditions. All the flooring, including the subfloors, in approximately 120 of the 154 units must be replaced entirely. Residents also need appliances, mattresses, and furniture replaced. As well as the most basic of needs like water, food, and cleaning supplies. Mike Patch, president of the Moorhead Manor community, is responsible for this gofundme page, and the Moorhead Manor Regions Bank Reserve Fund will be directly receiving gofundme donations. This gofundme is based on a quote we have already received from a legitimate contractor. All donations are greatly appreciated and will go to the flooring project and other necessary expenses for this community.
For transparency, we are sharing the flooring quote we received:
Mold Remediation (per unit):
per floor for labor: $3,400
materials: $1,000
TOTAL per unit: $4,400
Any donation would be greatly appreciated and would go directly to replacing flooring in our seniors’ homes as well as other various necessary expenses.
