Recently, my mentor/friend experienced an unexpected family emergency. I am putting together this page to help her with the medical expenses incurred. Please see her story below.
Long story short- Our boy started having terrible headaches and vomiting back in March. We couldn't get into the pcp and by the time we could get into a new pup they had subsided. Fast forward- progressive symptoms that we didn't realize were so telling until it was all together and severe. He started showing balance issues, tripping and falling, memory issues, behavioral and coordination changes, and running into things. He's knocked knee and one leg is longer than the other. We got into the new pcp to share concerns. We then got referred for both an ortho and neuro specialist. We were assuming it was either his legs or a possible tumor on his spine. At ortho Wednesday after X-rays they said it's not ortho, the length difference isn't enough to cause all this- it's neuro related and when are you going. The appointment they gave me wasn't until September. So they called the next day and said absolutely not don't wait go to the ER for imaging now. Thank God for the persistent neurologist because she saved our boys life! We did and the CT scan and it showed severe hydrocephalus (like 90% fluid) and his ventricles were 3x the size they are supposed to be. The doctor said he's a medical miracle that he hadn't been already having seizures and or not make it at all. They admitted us for an MRI for further evaluation and did emergency surgery directly after to remove the fluid. Findings of the MRI was a very large cyst blocking the entire 2nd ventricle and pushing into the 3rd, causing the blockage.
