Hi, my name is Marina, a friend of Marcy Berman and like so many of you, I’ve been deeply moved by Moondance’s story of survival, hope, and resilience against all odds.

From the moment Marcy rescued her from a kill pen in Texas, Moondance has fought for her life with everything she has. Over the past few weeks, she’s faced one challenge after another: escaping slaughter in Mexico, battling colic, fighting for her life as her liver values elevated due to bacterial hepatitis, surviving ICU, and now undergoing emergency surgery as she recovers from a 360 degree twist in her stomach — a surgery that became her ONLY chance to live.

I'm starting this fundraiser because Moondance’s fight isn’t over yet, and she deserves the happy ending we’ve all been hoping and praying for. Marcy intends to bring her to California to enjoy her happy, healthy, and loved golden years - that is, once she receives a clean bill of health and is ready for travel.

Every contribution received will go directly toward covering her emergency surgery, ongoing critical care, and the extended stay she needs to heal.

Why I'm Supporting Moondance

Moondance’s story has touched so many hearts over the past month. After spending more than two decades in survival mode—being used, discarded, and passed around as if her life meant nothing—she ended up in a kill pen, destined for slaughter in Mexico.

Now, to see her finally have a second chance—a real hope for a better life, for the "happily ever after" she has always deserved—has been nothing short of incredible. Those of us watching from the sidelines have been rooting for her with everything we have. And now, we have a chance to do even more: to come together and help this beautiful girl get across the finish line in her recovery journey and to finally, FINALLY, be free, surrounded by love in an environment of safety and dignity - an experience and reality she has always deserved.

The truth is, the surgery that saved her life was a last-resort effort. It wasn’t guaranteed to succeed, but she deserved the chance. Moondance had already endured so much—abandonment, starvation, cruelty—and yet somehow, she continues to trust and with profound resilience, her unbreakable spirit continues to fight onward.

That spirit is why Marcy fought for her — and why we are standing beside her now, doing everything we can to support this fight.

Emergency surgery, ICU care, hospitalization, and specialized liver treatment come with overwhelming costs. As much as Marcy wishes to carry this burden alone, she needs help - Moondance needs help.
