MONTY'S CANCER FUND
Donation protected
HELLO, The Posey & Cunningham Family (Tim, Shelly, Ryan, Kailey, Haddon, unborn Baby Boy Posey and Pat Cunningham) of Dallas, Texas are asking for your financial help and prayers for our loved one.
Our 44 year old cousin, Monty Stockard of Bowie, Texas was diagnosed in late October with malignant "Choroidal" Melanoma in his left eye. This is a terrible eye cancer that affects approximately 2,000 adults in North America every year. Choroidal Melanomas, like all melanomas, can be lethal. If not treated promptly and successfully it can spread and then metastasize in the liver and the lungs. This often occurs within 10 to 15 years in about 50% of people diagnosed with this disease. At present, Monty’s tumor is considered “medium” in size at 8 mm x 8 mm at the base and 3.8 mm in height. It is located between the uvea and the retina, close to the optic nerve in Monty’s left eye. Looks and sounds scary doesn't it. Time is not our friend when it comes to fighting and curing cancer. Most everyone knows someone who has cancer or has fought it, and either won or lost the battle. Cancer is not respecter of persons. It can affect anyone at any age. Monty lost his Dad (Darrell) to cancer 9 years ago and our family lost our Pops (JC Cunningham) at age 74 to liver cancer this past April.
This is a fund set up to supplement the cost of Monty's surgery scheduled on January 6, 2017 at Presbyterian Hospital in Dallas, TX. The surgery treatment involves 4 days of radiation administered via a metal plaque attached to his eye. Monty's doctor believes he has caught this malignant cancer early and with early detection there is about a 95% success rate at this stage of his cancer. These funds will be used to cover all surgical and radiation costs, hospital costs, doctors fees, medicines, testing and other related medical procedures and expenses, as well as, living expenses during the estimated 2 to 4 weeks after surgery that Monty will not be able to work.
Monty is self-employed. For the last 23 years his principal business has been producing rodeo roping's and ranching. Like so many people and small business owners in the U. S., Monty does not have medical insurance. He has searched out medical insurance coverage; however, living in a small town of Bowie, Texas it's not easy to get quality and affordable insurance that allows you to choose the doctors you need for the type of surgery required to treat this eye cancer. The medical insurance available to him is a "high deductible" Obamacare HMO through Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Texas. Unfortunately, this policy will not allow Monty to choose the doctors or the hospital he needs, nor will it cover the specialist, hospital, treatments and tests he requires because such would all be out of the HMO network.
To-date, Monty has paid cash for all the doctor visits and tests to determine the presence of the eye cancer. Monty has approximately $13,000 remaining in his life savings that he can and will use to pay towards the surgeon, hospital, anethesiologist, etc... The hospital estimates the cost for this procedure to be $25,000, without future follow-ups and testing. That will leave Monty $12,000 short in being able to pay for just the initial surgery procedure and hospital costs. Additionally, since Monty will be out of work an estimated 2 to 4 weeks, he will need extra dollars to cover his families living expenses for the time he cannot work, plus additional funds to cover the follow-up doctor visits and testing. That being said, we need your help to raise a minimum of $25,000.
Monty Stockard is a family man who works hard and who loves God and his family. Monty is married to Johnyce and they have a daughter, Taylor (age 23) who they put through college and graduated from Texas A & M University, and a son, Kash (age 16) who is a high school student with a love for baseball and calf roping.
WHAT CAN YOU DO TO HELP?
First, PRAY for Monty to be healed of this cancer either by God's grace and/or by the use of this radiation procedure. You can also pray for trust and peace for Monty, Johnyce, Taylor and Kash during this battle for Monty's health. Second, GIVE A GIFT (of any amount) to help Monty pay the costs he is not able to cover, and third, SHARE THE NEED by passing along the link to this GoFundMe page by sharing it with your church family, immediate family, home groups, community groups, bible study friends, life long friends, and co-workers. Please use the phone, emails, texts, Facebook, InstaGram, Twitter, blog page and any other social networking means you have available to you. Lastly, when you share the link or the need with others, please ask the people you share it with to pass it along to their network of family, friends and co-workers.
Our prayer and hope is that you will partner with the Posey & Cunningham family by giving a meaningful, never to be forgotton gift, to Monty and his family to help relieve the financial burden and battle they face with this eye cancer.
WHAT HAPPENS TO ANY MONEY RAISED THAT EXCEEDS THE $25,000 GOAL?
Any funds raised that exceed the $25,000 goal will be held in the GoFundMe account until Monty's doctor says the testing shows he is cleared of the cancer and all medical costs are fully paid. After that, any excess funds will be donated by Monty and his family to St. Jude's Hospital for Children to help other families in need cover the cost of their children's medical expenses.
Thank you and may God bless you and give you amazing grace for your generosity toward Monty and his family.
