On Tuesday January 28th, Monty fell at home and hit his arm and abdomen extreme hard. Wednesday, Wendy told him she was going to take him to the doctor because his arm had developed a large hematoma and it did not look good.. but being the last person to complain, Monty said he was just fine. On Saturday ,Wendy returned home after visiting her daughters for the day to find Monty unresponsive. He was taken in an ambulance to South Bend Hospital where he lost more than half of his blood and was given 8 liters. Theu were unsuccessful in finding the source of the bleed. He then was airlifted to Peacehealth hospital in Vancouver Wa.
Monty was put on life support, as he was in multi organ failure. Thursday evening the 9th, Monty showed small improvement and was awake for a day and a half being able to speak to his wife Wendy, his parents, his pregnant daughters Tausha and Brena, son in law Everal, as well as his 3 grandchildren and his siblings. That day and a half was a blessing as that Friday night, Monty developed respiratory issues and was put back on breathing apparatuses. It was discovered that Monty had been living with ARDS (Accute Respiratory  Distress Syndrome), which is normally not discovered until its too late. The new hospital finally discovered the source of the bleeding: GI bleed. Still unable to control the bleed by Saturday, Monty was in so much pain he was put back on life support, and under sedation. For the next several days, we were only able to get small responses from him, with the hope that he would come out of it again.
On Monday we were told that within 48 hours we would know if he would be able to survive off of the life support..his health further declined to a point of no return, and he never regained consciousness. Even if Monty would have been able to come off of the life support we were assured he would have zero quality of life.
His ARDS made it impossible for him to survive off of a ventilator, and his kidneys stopped functioning.
After a 12 day stay in the ICU, Monty passed Wednesday evening February 12th, surrounded by his loved ones.
Wendy and Monty had a true love story.. they had been highschool sweethearts; together since they were 16. We are asking for support for his wife Wendy, as the 12 day ICU stay and the lifelift bills will be astronomical.
This is a complete tragedy for any and all who knew Monty. He was a wonderful husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle and son. He was kind, funny, extremely intelligent, a prankster whenever he got the opportunity, an outdoorsman, brilliant guitar player, multi talented in craftsmanship, loved life and love his friends and family with his whole being. Our lives with be forever lost without our rock, our anchor, the glue that held us all together.
